Mountain Coast Aikikai offers a regular schedule of classes in Aikido, comprising Body Arts, Aiki-weapons training and Iai-Battoho, as well as in Japanese Swordsmanship in the lineage of Ryushin Shouchi Ryu Iaijutsu. We also provide regular instruction in the foundations of Zazen (zen meditation) and mindfulness practices.

Schedule Notes

  • Participants enrolled in the 2-month Introductory Aikido program may participate in Aikido Body Arts classes only.
  • Participants enrolled in the 2-month Introductory Iaijutsu program may participate in Iaijutsu classes only.
  • Participants enrolled in the combined 2-month Introductory Aikido and Introductory Iaijutsu program may participate in Aikido Body arts classes and in Iaijutsu classes, but not in Aiki-weapons classes.
  • Regular Members are permitted (and encouraged!) to train in all Aikido Body Arts, Aikido Weapons and Iai Battoho classes, but must obtain the permission of the Chief Instructor and prior to participating in any weapons training classes.
  • Participation in Ryushin Shouchi Ryu Iaijutsu classes is open to dojo members enrolled in either the combined Aikido and Iaijutsu program or the Iaijutsu only program. Participants must obtain the permission of the Chief Instructor and to make a commitment to regular attendance at these classes, prior to participating in any weapons training classes.

Prospective Students

Prospective members are required to observe at least one Aikido and/or RSR Iaijutsu class at Mountain Coast Aikikai before signing up.  You are welcome to observe any Aikido or Iaijutsu class.  Please contact us in advance of your visit, or simply arrive at the dojo 10 minutes before the class start time and speak to one of the members about observing a class.  Please see the Join the Dojo page for more information.

Visiting Aikidoists

Additional Notes

  • Private Instruction is available by arrangement with the Chief Instructor. Please contact the dojo for more information.
  • The dojo is typically closed on all Canadian Statutory Holidays. The dojo also closes for a summer break in August and a short winter break at the end of the year.
